Wanting to dig deeper into what caused this crisis, I have been watching videos and reading books that touched on the financial crisis that we are in at the moment. One of the videos that explains the credit crisis pretty well is the special that originally aired on 1st of April 2008 on BBC2.

If they waited till the end of the year they might have an even better special but still it is an entertaining video to watch. It mostly touches on the British economy but as we all know, we are all in this big global mess together.

Let me know what you think!

The causes of this crisis remain elusive, with blame pointed in every direction. My colleague, James Haas, wrote this balanced review of the blame game:

Basically, Haas explains that we are all culprits in the debacle. We’ve become accustomed to living outside of our means for far too long. Sure, there were incentives to do so, but ultimately we must take responsibility for our own precarious financial conditions. Only in this fashion will we be forced to take necessary actions to bring lifestyle expectations in line with reality.

Here’s a piece I wrote that is, admittedly, far more accusatory towards government policy.

In retrospect, I favor a more balanced explanation. Government was only one (though a big one) of the many players that brought the system down.
